Boulet launches second TV ad ahead of October election for Mayor-President
LAFAYETTE, LA — With early voting less than three weeks away, Monique Blanco Boulet (R-Lafayette) released a new ad that references her father, the late "Coach" Raymond Blanco's role as a championship football coach at USL. The newest spot exposes Mayor-President Josh Guillory's ineffective leadership.
"When my Dad coached Cajuns' football, he had a saying, 'Potential will get you beat on Saturday night.' ... We talk a lot about potential in Lafayette Parish,” the ad says. “But corruption, waste, and mismanagement are keeping us from living up to it. It's not who we are, and it won't stop unless we vote for change.”
The video references the rampant corruption of the Guillory administration, including:
Unlawfully seizing 400 acres of private property to build a $60 million detention pond that will do little to prevent flooding.
Being cited for more than two-dozen serious deficiencies in his internal audit, including violations of public bid laws and other state laws, leading to overpayments.
Abusing tax dollars by taking police officers away from fighting crime to act as his personal bodyguards and drivers — something no other Mayor-President has ever done.
Starting a construction equipment rental business in an attempt to cash in on public funds within two months of beginning large drainage projects, then trying to cover up his association with the company by removing his name from public records.
Awarding a $390,000 drainage contract weeks after receiving $10,000 in campaign donations from the company's owner. Then adding tens of millions of additional work without rebidding the contract.
This is Boulet's second spot of the campaign. The first ad showcased her experience bringing investments and transparency to government services that prevent crime, such as economic development, better-paying jobs, and public safety measures. Monique left her role as head of the Acadiana Planning Commission (APC) to focus on the race to replace scandal-ridden Guillory as Mayor-President.
The new television spot will air through targeted digital and on broadcast and cable in the weeks ahead.
Early voting runs every day except Sunday from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7. Election Day is Oct. 14.
